National Product Stewardship Institute
The Product Stewardship Institute was created to assist state and local government agencies in establishing cooperative agreements with industry and environmental groups to reduce the health and environmental impacts from consumer product manufacture, use, storage, and disposal.

California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC)
The California Product Stewardship Council is an organization of local governments from throughout California who aim to shift California's product waste management system from one focused on government funded and ratepayer financed waste diversion to one that relies on producer responsibility in order to reduce public costs and drive improvements in product design that promote environmental sustainability.

Green Chemistry in California: A Framework for Leadership in Chemicals Policy and Innovation
This report looks at why adopting a comprehensive, state-wide chemicals policy is critical to placing California on the path to a sustainable future. The report identifies the deficiencies in the federal regulation of chemicals and recommends that California adopt a chemicals policy that greatly improves chemical information, regulatory oversight, and support for green chemistry research, development, technical assistance, and education. The report is a helpful reference for anyone involved in building long-term capacity in chemicals policy. The California Policy Research Center is a broad research and public service program responsible for applying the extensive research expertise of the University of California faculty to the analysis, development, and implementation of state and federal policy.

British Columbia Industry Product Stewardship Business Plan
The British Columbia Industry Product Stewardship Business Plan is now available for viewing from the ministry website. The Government of British Columbia has proven to be an international leader in establishing regulatory frameworks that result in industry-run, third party organizations for specific target products. Their new business plan is a great reference for anyone involved in developing new product stewardship plans.

The State of the States: Assessing the Capacity of States to Achieve Sustainable Development Through Green Planning
The 50 states were recently analyzed and ranked according to their sustainability efforts. Only 7 states received more than half of the 100 points possible in the index. Oregon ranked 1st with 73 points, followed by New Jersey (71), Minnesota (64), Maine (59), Washington (57), Mississippi (57) and Vermont (55). This report provides a detailed appraisal of individual state preparedness to implement sustainability as integral public policy.

NEW EPA Product-Specific Green Purchasing Guides
Government purchasers looking to procure "green" goods and services have a new resource at their disposal. EPA recently produced a series of purchasing guides covering: food service ware, copiers, cleaners, carpets, electronics, and meetings. The guides describe the challenges, successes, and resources associated with each product or service, focusing on how to incorporate environmental considerations into purchasing decisions. Washington Dept of Ecology: Internal Product Stewardship Implementation Plan
The Department of Ecology adopted product stewardship principles to help achieve their goal of fostering sustainable communities. This report looks at how Ecology can improve their internal operations to implement additional activities that will reduce costs while creating product stewardship incentives over the entire lifetime of a product or service, not just at the end-of-life management.

The Pollution Prevention Resource Center Product Stewardship Website
This website provides practical information on product stewardship tools for manufacturers of products. The chosen tools are: Design for Environment, Eco-Labeling, Life Cycle Management, Green Purchasing,Take-Back Programs, and Servicizing. The tools are defined and basic elements are provided (in printable checklists) for putting the tools into practice. The site lists examples of who's doing it already and where to find more information on the web.
